Grantbook is a strategic advisor to grantmaking organizations. In partnership with my friends at Briteweb, I led their team through a brand workshop based on Donald Miller’s Story Brand, which I find especially useful when collaborating with companies that provide services. That process enabled us to create rich and robust psychographic profiles of their various audience groups. From there, I developed a new tone of voice — human, spirited, clear and confident — which is brought to life in Grantbook’s brand story, below.

Brand Story

We’re Grantbook, a strategic consultancy with expertise at the intersection of technology and philanthropy. We believe philanthropy, at its heart, is about people. This isn't a new idea—after all, the word literally means “love of humankind.” And yet we’ve seen time and time again: the way the philanthropic sector operates hasn’t always been particularly kind to its humans. 

We get it. The focus has long been on outcomes: families fed, kids educated, communities uplifted. Impact is important. Critical, in fact. But what about the other links in the chain of good? What about the process by which that impact happens, and the people who make it all possible? 

We’re here for those people. For you. We serve changemakers at grantmaking organizations like yours, so you can better serve the organizations and initiatives you fund. With over hundreds of grantmaker engagements under our belt, we’ve noticed some patterns. Inspiring foundations with uninspired operations. Archaic frankensystems. Burned out teams, deeply committed to the cause but buckling under the weight of too much work and wasted effort. Operations that are inelegant, ineffective, and inefficient. 

The common denominator: philanthropy’s status quo isn’t serving changemakers. That’s why we do.
